Is this the next big social media website?

Is this the next big social media website?

The first stage launch of a new interactive social media website - www.quentinquestor.com - developed especially for backpackers, serious holiday makers and those who simply enjoy exploring the world went live today – allowing anyone with access to the internet to get a new view of Planet Earth.

The site sponsored by leading travel insurance intermediary Questor Insurance Services Ltd, based in Rainham, Kent, is designed to continually evolve and will be continuously updated and improved with feedback from users.

There will be a second major stage launch - the development of the Quentin Community which will give everyone their own personal page and timeline to allow them to interact with fellow travellers. This will be active before the end of 2014.

There is also a new social media term – Quip – for anyone who wants to comment and interact with those already using the portal.

The people who use the site will help to determine how it will eventually evolve and the team who created it say they welcome all comments from users and fellow “quippers” on ways to turn www.quentinquestor.com into the best social media site ever for people who like to travel.

The website –– allows travellers to share their holiday experiences by uploading images with a short 140 character caption describing where they have been and why it was so good or otherwise. Once uploaded, Friends, Fans and Followers will be able to Quip and add their own views. Users can even log in using their FaceBook and Twitter accounts.

Those images, which will remain as part of a permanent gallery on the Quentin Questor site, can then be immediately further broadcast to be shared by an even wider audience via Facebook and Twitter if the user has signed in using any one of these portals. The service will be totally free at all times.

The website fills a gap in the social media market by allowing backpackers and holiday makers to share real time travel, especially fun experiences, as they happen. It is not intended to compete with sites such as Trip Advisor which essentially offers travel advice before setting off.

By its specialist nature, the QuentinQuestor site ensures that a permanent record is made of shared travel experiences to help others who might be planning similar visits in the future. Such experiences, while remaining on individual’s pages, are usually quickly superseded by other messages and posts on sites such as Facebook and Twitter which deal with more general communication.

The website, which has general information about every country on the planet together with any alerts for wary travellers, also features a new virtual character with a social conscience - Quentin Questor – explorer and globe trotter.

As Quentin travels the world he will share his own adventures with fellow travellers who have signed up and shared their own experiences. However, Quentin will have a more important role and will be linked to major charities by taking part in a series of sponsored charity events.

Such events have never taken place before and this is seen as a new way of raising funds for hundreds of worthy causes to help reinforce the social nature of the entire website.

www.quentinquestor.com is currently a blank canvas but it is ready to be populated by you. Or you can follow us as well on Twitter (https://twitter.com/QuentinQuestor) and Facebook  https://www.facebook.com/QuentinQuestor
